nuno168 Patrick Mahomes is feeling good about his recovery from an ankle injury, but he won’t rule out Carson Wentz starting to lead the Chiefs against the Houston Texans on Saturday.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said he is pleased with his recovery from the sprained right upper ankle he suffered during the win over the Cleveland Browns, but insisted the injury was not as severe as the one he suffered in the 2022 Divisional playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, ESPN reports. nuno168

Mahomes previously suffered an upper ankle sprain during the 2022 Divisional Playoffs against the Jaguars. He took a short break before returning for the AFC Championship Game against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles, and re-emerged in the latest game against the Browns. 

“That was a significant injury,” Mahomes said. “But I want to be in a better position for the next game against the Bengals, so I’ll see if I can do that.” 

‘I want to be able to move. I want to get away from (Houston), who has a good pass rush, a good defense. They’re going to come around you. You don’t want to put yourself out there. Obviously, this is football and you’ve got to handle the attack, but you’ve got to protect yourself. So that’s where I’m at and I don’t want to limit the game plan. That’s another thing for me.’

‘I want to move around the area so we don’t stay still, stay in one spot the whole game and let their defense run wild. It’s something I have to find the balance and see where I am. I won’t know until the end of the week.’

The Chiefs are currently 13-1, have won the AFC West and clinched a playoff spot, but are chasing the AFC’s No. 1 seed, who received a first-round bye and will play at home the entire playoff round. The Chiefs will do just that by winning two of their final three games. They lost to the Texans, but will stay in first place after beating the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos. 

“I’m not going to say I played bad,” Mahomes said. “It’s not the AFC Championship Game where we have to play to get to the Super Bowl. We’ve got some room to play, but at the end of the day, we’re trying to win games. We’re trying to win football games, and I’m a fighter. I want to play there. So I’m going to push myself to be the best I can be in the next few days and then we can make a decision.” 

‘I’m not going to put our team in a bad situation. If I feel like I can play and go out and win football games, I’m going to play. And if I don’t feel like that’s the best situation, I’m going to let a guy like Carson play. He’s a guy who’s going to win this league, too. So this week, we just try to do our best, see where I’m at, and then make the best decision.’  ( nuno168 )
