McCaffrey is a versatile player who is once again one of the NFL’s top running backs after fitting well into head coach Kyle Shanahan’s system, and his durability has been a key factor in his success, and he is confident he can continue playing for many more seasons to come.

‘Absolutely,’ McCaffrey said when asked if he could play into his mid-30s. ‘I don’t put any limits on it. I always play the way I feel and I feel great.’

But McCaffrey’s great feeling doesn’t match his current status, as the 28-year-old running back sat out preseason action with a calf injury, but he insists it was just a precaution.

Since joining the 49ers, McCaffrey has played in 27 of 28 regular-season games. He had career-best 1,459 yards rushing and 2,023 total yards, with 21 touchdowns, earning him the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award last season. 

“I feel great,” McCaffrey said. “I look at the guys in the league who are my age and are still playing, the guys who are older than me, like Derrick Henry and Raheem Mostert, they’re in their 30s and they’re Pro Bowl and All-Pro players. I think you can play as long as you want.”
