Real Madrid are on a different level to Paris Saint-Germain, according to Cristiano Ronaldo, and he is unsure whether Kylian Mbappe can handle the pressure of playing at the Santiago Bernabeu – a problem that has plagued the French forward, according to former England defender Rio Ferdinand’s podcast. 

Mbappe’s time at Real Madrid has been far from smooth sailing since joining from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer this summer, with the 25-year-old facing growing criticism over his performances, including two consecutive missed penalties.

Ronaldo, who played for Real Madrid between 2009 and 2018 and is the club’s all-time leading scorer, had previously expressed concerns about how well Mbappe would handle the pressure of playing for Los Blancos during talks with Ferdinand, and now it appears those concerns have resurfaced.

‘We will see if his head is clear and good and if he can handle the pressure well because Real Madrid is not PSG,’ Ronaldo has previously said of Mbappe. 

‘Now Mbappe goes there (to Real Madrid) and you say, is Real Madrid better with him? We don’t know, we have to wait and see.’

‘I think Real Madrid will remain strong, but I don’t know if they will be better than last year. Let’s see, only God knows. But they have a great team, great players,’ Ronaldo said.
