The 36-year-old currently plays in Australia’s A-League for Western Sydney Wanderers, becoming the first active professional footballer to co-own a team in the US Major League Soccer.

“Partnering with San Diego FC is an exciting opportunity to help build something truly special for the city and the growing league,” Mata said. 

“I look forward to bringing my experience and passion for the game to work alongside everyone there.”

Mata rose to fame playing for Manchester United , Chelsea and the ‘ Bulls ‘ , winning the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012.  ( wilson88 )
