Minnesota Vikings co-owner and chairman Mark Wilf has praised J.J. McCarthy’s leadership and talent and is backing the 22-year-old quarterback to achieve the success the organization wants, NFL Network reported.  kindee1688

The Vikings selected McCarthy with the 10th overall pick in the 2024 draft. He impressed in the preseason, completing 11 of 17 passes for 188 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, before suffering a torn meniscus in the game that required surgery and a rookie season out. 

‘He’s got the gravitas as a leader, he’s got it,’ Wilf said of McCarthy. ‘The talent is there, coach (Kevin) O’Connell has been a huge fan of the way he’s handled everything and from an off-the-field perspective, we’re very happy. Everything is heading in the right direction and we’ll be backing J.J. to be as successful as we want him to be.’

McCarthy watched Sam Darnold resurrect his career, leading the Vikings to a 14-3 regular season, while classmates Jayden Daniels and Bo Nix both shined in their rookie seasons and Caleb Williams and Drake Maye also had chances to play.

After Darnold signed with the Seattle Seahawks, the Vikings officially became McCarthy’s team, trading Sam Howell as the only backup.

McCarthy still has the full backing of the team that had a successful season last season, but the 22-year-old quarterback will also have to adjust to O’Connell’s team. ( kindee1688 )
