Cooks caught passes from Drew Brees early in his career from 2014-16 before moving on to the New England Patriots, LA Rams, Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys, before returning to New Orleans this offseason and potentially playing alongside one of the young quarterbacks.

The Saints will have three young quarterbacks competing for the starting job in second-round rookie Tyler Chuck, former fifth-round 2024 draft pick Spencer Rattler and former fourth-round 2023 draft pick Jake Hener. 

“Yeah, it should get you to your best,” Cook said. “It’s fun to watch them compete. All three had a great spring, so it’s fun to watch them compete.”

However, Hener is out for about two to three weeks with a quadriceps injury, so Chuck and Rattler have a chance to go one-on-one with each other this time around, and Cooks has been impressed by both young quarterbacks despite their short tenure.

“They’re playing with a lot of confidence, both of them,” Cook said. “And you see the competition going on, they’re definitely handling it, so I hope to see that continue to grow.” 

With a young quarterback, NFL Network analyst Cynthia Freland projects the Saints to win 5.3 games in the 2025 season, but Cooks isn’t worried about that. 

‘At the end of the day, we’re all starting at 0-0, it doesn’t matter what you did last year,’ Cook said. ‘It doesn’t matter what you did last year, it’s a new beginning for us, and you can call it the underdog or whatever, but we’re giving it our all. We’ll let our actions decide on Sunday of the season.’ ( kindee1688 )
