James made just 10 Premier League appearances last season after suffering a hamstring injury early in the campaign and underwent surgery in December, setting up a long-term return in May, although he was sent off in the penultimate game against Brighton.

The red card, his second of the season, saw the 24-year-old right-back serve a four-match suspension, with the first game already served in the final game of the season and a further three games to be served at the start of the new campaign. 

Asked about his goals for the new season, James replied: “I have one goal: to be on the pitch.” ( wintime999  )

“I am someone who tries to do more than I ever have, and sometimes it causes problems for myself and the team, but it is something I am trying to improve on.”

“I would like to think I am in a good place now. I had a long season and a long pre-season because I had a four-match suspension, but I am in good physical shape.”

Meanwhile, James is preparing for Chelsea’s friendly match against Wrexham in the United States on Thursday morning, Thailand time.
