Thierry Henry has suggested Antoine Griezmann could have a reduced role at Atletico Madrid as he does with the French national team, but is confident the 33-year-old will adapt well and remain a key player for the Rojiblancos, according to Diario AS on Thursday.  ( pgzen )

Griezmann is the club’s all-time top scorer and won two La Liga titles under Diego Simeone before the Argentine signed two more forwards this summer in Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth. 

That has raised doubts over the status of Griezmann, who could find himself in a similar situation to the France international, after the 33-year-old played just 11 minutes of the 2-0 Nations League A win over Belgium, with Henry admitting he has no clear idea about Simeone’s attacking line-up. 

‘I will leave it to Diego Simeone to deal with (the new players). He knows what to do with these players. It is Diego Simeone’s job to find a way to make them work together and play together,’ Henry said.

Griezmann has played 137 times for the French national team, the fourth-highest total in Les Bleus history, just eight behind Hugo Lloris.

‘Griezmann is not your average 33-year-old, he has played every game since he was 19 and with Atletico Madrid, it’s a bit of a challenge to how you play and how (Simeone) asks you to play every week.’

However, Henry believes Griezmann will find a way to return to his efficiency and threat, even if he may cover less ground than before.

‘Griezmann played as a centre-forward for a while, then he played behind Diego Costa, then he moved to the right, then the left, then he played behind the striker. What it says about Griezmann is that he can play in all areas and he adapts well. For me, he is still an important player. ‘
