Slovakia defender David Hancko has revealed why he missed out on a move to Atletico Madrid this summer, with the Rojiblancos’ offer not enough to meet his club Feyenoord Rotterdam’s demands, Marca reported on Wednesday. 

Atletico Madrid tried their best to sign Hancko from Feyenoord last summer but failed to make an offer that fell short of the valuation the Dutch club were looking for, with the Rojiblancos instead turning to Barcelona centre-back Clement Lenglet on a one-year loan deal to bolster their defence.

‘They had a certain budget for me and in the end they couldn’t agree with Feyenoord on the amount. Atletico Madrid were closer [to signing me] but at Feyenoord they didn’t want to let me go for less than they had a figure in mind,’ Hancko said.

Atletico Madrid spent a lot of money in the summer transfer window, signing Julian Alvarez, Alexander Sørloth, Conor Gallagher and Robin Le Normande, and were left with a limited budget to sign Hanchko, which ultimately led to their failure to sign him.  ( sunlit1688 )
