Edwards-Helier missed several practices in training camp due to illness, and the 28-year-old running back also missed a week before Thursday’s season-opening game against the Baltimore Ravens before the Chiefs placed the veteran running back on non-football injured reserve. 

The veteran running back revealed on social media in late July that he was struggling with PTSD, and told reporters that he suffered from nausea and vomiting due to the condition, sometimes so severe that he had to be hospitalized.

“I had PTSD and I had episodic vomiting,” Edwards-Helier said, crediting Chiefs athletic trainer Julie Freimeyer for helping him get through it. “So it was a neurological thing that they helped me through and got me through it.”

‘Sometimes I had to go to the hospital and it was like I couldn’t stop throwing up. Nothing could stop it. The only person who really showed me the right way in the beginning was Julie Freimeyer, who gave me medication during the worst of it to get me through. But really, I was severely dehydrated, losing weight rapidly. I was just unconscious.’
