Sport Bild reported on Wednesday that Leverkusen are close to completing the signing of 18-year-old Argentine striker Alejo Zarco, who is set to join the club on a free transfer in January. 

Leverkusen tried to sign Zarko in the summer but Velez Sarsfield blocked his move, with the player rejecting a new offer from the club and being left out of the first-team squad after playing nine games this season. However, they are set to lose the 18-year-old for nothing when his contract expires on December 31. 

Leverkusen are reportedly close to signing Zarko in the near future, with only a few details remaining, with the 18-year-old adding depth to the team’s attack in the second half of the season, and with the physical conditions of Victor Boniface and Patrik Schick likely to see the Argentine emerge sooner than expected.

In addition to bringing in Zarko to strengthen the attack, Leverkusen have also been linked with the signing of Lyon’s young midfielder Rayan Cherki, as the drugstore team looks for a backup and long-term replacement for Florian Wirtz in case the 21-year-old midfielder leaves the club at the end of the season.  ( wilson88 )
