Dalton ready to lead Panthers to face former team hotfuns

Quarterback Andy Dalton, 36, who made a remarkable comeback, is set to lead the Carolina Panthers to face his former team, the Cincinnati Bengals, where he played for nine seasons, on Sunday, The Charlotte Observer reports. 

“It would be great to go up against them and see them,” Dalton told Mike Kay of The Charlotte Observer. “When you see Cincy on the schedule, I’ve seen all of them except last year, so it’s always fun to have a chance to go up against them.”

Dalton stepped into the starting quarterback picture in place of Bryce Young last week, and the 36-year-old completed 26-of-37 passes for 319 yards, becoming the first quarterback to pass for more than 300 yards this season. He also threw for three touchdowns, had no interceptions and posted a 123.6 rating in a 36-22 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Dalton’s final season in Cincinnati was Zach Taylor’s first year as head coach, which started off poorly at 0-11 before Dalton was removed from the starting lineup after Week 13 (2-11). The Panthers then finished the season 2-14. 

Even though the Bengals are off to a dismal start to the season, going 0-3, Dalton believes facing the Panthers won’t be an easy task.

‘They’re a great team,’ Dalton said. ‘Their record doesn’t show who they are. Everyone knows the kind of players they have and the success they’ve had, so you can’t ignore them.’ ( hotfuns )
