Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris doesn’t expect Kirk Cousins to participate this offseason, and said the organization would consider a trade for the 36-year-old quarterback if it’s in the best interests of all parties, NFL Network reports. cosmo365
Morris has selected second-year quarterback Michael Penix as the starter for the 2025 season, while Cousins will be demoted to backup amid reports the 36-year-old is looking to move on to secure another chance at starting football.
“It’s a business decision,” Morris said. “What’s best for the Falcons? We’re not going to hold him back if the opportunity arises. He’s made it clear he wants to be the starter.”
The desire to be the starting quarterback in the 2025 season may have motivated Cousins to waive his no-trade clause when he signed a four-year, $180 million contract last offseason.
Morris doesn’t expect Cousins to report for the voluntary off-season, which begins April 21, but the 36-year-old would be welcome back if he does.
His $10 million 2026 roster bonus was fully guaranteed last month, and Cousins will earn a base salary of $27.5 million in 2025. That could lead the Falcons to seek a trade for the 36-year-old quarterback, with the Cleveland Browns also showing interest. ( cosmo365 )
