“In the first half, there was only one team that showed they were better. I don’t think Verona had a chance, but then we gave Verona a chance at the beginning of the second half and we were behind when they had a chance later.

“Then we melted like snow in the sun. I felt like we had to apologise to the Napoli fans who came to cheer us on. I’m the coach and it’s my responsibility.

“I’m sorry because the second half was unacceptable. The performance showed that we have to work in every area. I come to Napoli with enthusiasm, with desire. If I can help the team, I will do it.”

For their next game, Napoli will have a chance to redeem themselves when they host Bologna at home next Sunday.
