Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner insists 1,000 yards is the standard he’ll set for the rest of his career, after taking seven seasons to reach that mark, ESPN reports. superwin636

Conner entered the league as a third-round draft pick in the 2017 class and spent the first four years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers before moving to Arizona in 2021. The 29-year-old running back first hit the 1,000-yard mark last season after rushing for 1,040 yards on 208 carries and scoring seven touchdowns.  ( superwin636 )

“That’s the floor,” Conner told ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss. “I want that to be the lowest I’ll ever run the ball in my future. There’s a lot of work to be done, for sure, but that’s the floor, not the ceiling.”

Conner rushed for 1,040 yards in 13 starts, missing four games with a sprained MCL. He averaged a career-best 5.0 yards per carry and is third among running backs with at least 200 carries.

“I don’t mind,” Conner said of reaching the 1,000-yard mark in his seventh career. “Just being able to play the game and then the rewards come along. I realize a little bit that the hard work has paid off.”

Conner also plans to contribute more in the 2024 season after catching just 27 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns last season.

“I feel like I can make plays in the throwing game,” Conner said. “That’s why we put in the work. That’s why we’re here doing the offseason and going through training camp and going into the season. So the challenge is welcome.”
