Carsley took over as caretaker manager for the Three Lions, replacing Gareth Southgate, who left after Euro 2024, and has won five of his six (lost one) UEFA Nations League games overall, helping the team to promotion from Class B to Class A. 

The final word for the Three Lions, who will have Thomas Tuchel as head coach after the calendar year changes, is that they have something good to offer themselves. Hopefully, they can unlock major championships in tournaments in Canada, Mexico and the United States. 

“I think we are in a good position to be World Cup champions in 2026, I think we have the talent to do it,” the 51-year-old said at his farewell press conference. 

“We are well-armed, we just need to use them effectively.” 

“The expanded pool of players Thomas has available has pushed the squad to a fantastic position.”

“I was lucky enough to experience two or three World Cups and I learned the formula for success: the players need to be in the right place at the right time, physically and mentally, and the right selection.”
