Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has opened up about the serious knee injury he suffered in the 5-1 win at Villarreal in September and underwent immediate surgery, with the 32-year-old expected to return to action towards the end of the season, Bild reported on Thursday. 

‘The first thing I felt was a tightness in my thigh, pain spreading through my body. When I looked down I knew straight away it wasn’t just a problem with my thigh. My knee was in a completely different position to where it should be and it was clear it wasn’t going to go back into place straight away,’ the 32-year-old said.

Ter Stegen is reportedly set to return to action by the end of April, where he will face competition from current Blaugrana number one Wojciech Szczesny for a starting spot.
