Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Bean is confident James Cook will be ready to play when the time comes, even though the 24-year-old running back skipped voluntary offseason workouts, Mad Dog Sports Radio’s Adam Shane told ESPN.  ( bully168 )

“I know there are people in the building he’s talked to and I have no doubt that when it’s time to play football he’ll be ready to go,” Bean said of Cook. 

Bean is confident Cook will be in Buffalo for the 2025 season, though he has not verbally committed to an extension with the former 2022 second-round draft pick.

Cook has been named to the Pro Bowl each of the last two seasons, having rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each, most notably in 2024, when he threw for a league-high 16 touchdowns, tied with Baltimore Ravens Derrick Henry and Detroit Lions Jahmiir Gibbs. 

The 24-year-old running back, who is eligible for an extension when he enters his fourth rookie year, has previously stated he wants $15 million per year, but Beane has insisted no deal will be made before the 2025 draft, but so far, there has been no progress. 

“Sometimes business gets in the way, and we get that,” Bean said of Cook’s transition from training camp to training camp. “Jimbo, he’s a competitive guy. He loves playing for this team. He loves being a part of it. He loves his role here. And he fits this offense really well. I think that’s a great fit for him, and it’s been fun to watch him play in his first three years.”

‘Every year he has to take it to the next level and to see him get the recognition he got last season is cool. Where he comes from, he’s seen as a third back or a change-of-pace back and he’s proven he can play any position and he’s going to keep working at it.’
