Bordeaux were relegated to the third tier of French professional football on Tuesday after Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) pulled out of takeover talks.

Earlier this month, FSG said it was in talks to buy the six-time French champions, but last week they pulled out after extensive and constructive discussions with all stakeholders.

FSG’s decision to withdraw the offer has created financial and operational problems for the club.

For Bordeaux, there is a great past, having won the French league title 6 times (1949, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1998 and 2008).
