Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll says the Pirates are in talks over a new deal for Geno Smith after trading the 34-year-old quarterback from the Seattle Seahawks, NFL Network reports. baconclub66
The Raiders have agreed to trade Smith from the Seahawks after the 34-year-old quarterback was entering the final year of his contract and could not agree on an extension.
“We’re working on it. (Smith) is excited to get started. He’ll be here when we get started, but we’re working on it,” Carroll said of the new deal with the 34-year-old quarterback.
Meanwhile, Raiders general manager John Spitek expressed confidence that Smith’s contract extension will be completed soon, saying, “We hope to have him not just this year, but for many years to come.”
For Carroll, who worked with Smith in Seattle for six seasons, he insists trading the 34-year-old quarterback from the Seahawks is a long-term solution, not just a bridge.
“Gino is a really important part of the puzzle that we’re putting together,” Carroll said. “He’s got a great background, which is really important for me because I know who I can rely on. He’s a really hard worker, he’s matured a lot throughout his career, he’s been through a lot, he’s won a lot.”
