vox888 New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has his sights set on out-of-contract midfielder Angel Gomes from Lille in France’s Ligue 1, and if he can convince him to sign on a free agent, it would mark a return to the club where he played as a youth player. vox888

The Suns Football reports that the 24-year-old midfielder was once the fourth-youngest United player to make his Premier League debut at the age of 16 years and 263 days in May 2017 against Crystal Palace.  ( vox888 )

However, the player, who joined the Red Devils’ youth academy since the age of six, failed to establish himself as a regular, playing just 10 matches in the next three years before being released in the summer of 2020.

But his five years of development at Lille saw him develop both his skills and maturity to the point where he was able to make the England senior team.

And because his contract with Stade Pierre Mauro is about to expire without any plans to sign an additional contract, many clubs in England are interested in luring him to join their team, one of which is United, his former club, whose head coach Amorim likes the player’s style of survival in the midfield if pressed since he was in charge of Sporting Lisbon. 

In line with the technical football department, both Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox agreed, and submitted personal terms for Gomes to consider after the calendar year changed according to the rights of clubs in other leagues to approach players with 6 months left on their contracts .
