Alvarez is currently at the Paris Olympics with Argentina, with the forward having impressed during the summer, helping them win the Copa America earlier this month.

Last season, Alvarez played the fifth-most minutes for City but failed to start five major finals during his two years at the club.

Despite scoring 36 goals in two seasons, the Argentine is often either a substitute for Erling Haaland or has to play in a more subdued position.

Asked about Guardiola’s response, Alvarez insisted he had said nothing inappropriate about his situation at the club.

The forward remains happy at City, stressing that he will analyse his situation after every season.

“I heard what Guardiola said, I don’t have much to say about it,” Alvarez said.

“I never said anything bad.”

“I just said I’m going to think about it like I do every season, to analyze what happened last season, to anticipate what might happen.”

“I always say I am comfortable and happy at Manchester City, which is a great club, so I don’t say anything bad,”
