123overr Devon Aachen is ready to take on a bigger workload with the Miami Dolphins and is expected to be fully fit for the rest of the season.
Miami Dolphins sophomore running back Devon Achen insists he’s still feeling good despite the increased workload, but the 23-year-old has been productive through the first 10 games of the season, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. 123overr
The former third-round pick in the 2023 draft class has 122 carries and 46 catches through the first 10 games of this season, but Eachen has already surpassed his rookie season tally, having just 103 carries and 27 catches in 11 games last season.
“I feel good,” Echen said. “I’m happy to be 100 percent fit. I haven’t had the injuries I had last season, so I’m just trying to stay fit for the rest of the season.”
However, the team’s exciting offense may be dwindling. After all, Eachen averaged 7.8 yards per carry in his rookie season, but the 5-foot-9 back is averaging just 4.3 yards per carry this season. But he still leads the Dolphins in rushing with 530 yards and three touchdowns. The 23-year-old running back also caught 46 passes and tied for third-most three-scores on the Dolphins.
In Week 11 against the Las Vegas Raiders, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel had Eachen run the ball 17 times for 73 yards and one touchdown. He also caught the ball four times for 32 yards, while rookie Jaylen Wright had six touches (five carries) and Raheem Mostert had three carries for a two-yard loss.
“Devon’s play deserves more minutes, and we expect him to play at a higher level,” McDaniel said. “He’s played really well, so in those situations we kind of lean on the hot hand, and I think he makes things more difficult in the game, especially the last two situations where we had to put him on the court, but we try to let the players make decisions for us during the game about how long they’re going to play and respond appropriately.”
Mostert, who led all running backs in touchdowns last season (18), insists he doesn’t feel any envy toward his junior, even though he plays a smaller role.
‘He’s doing a good job. He’s on fire right now and it’s good to see. He’s very impressive. I’ve been through a lot but I’m here to play a role and that’s to make myself better, to make the people around me better. If my chance comes, I’m open to it.’
