Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans couldn’t be happier with Derek Barnett after the 28-year-old defensive end recovered a fumble before running 28 yards for a touchdown in Monday’s 34-10 win over the Dallas Cowboys, NFL Network reported. 

Barnett swatted the ball from Cooper Rush as the Cowboys quarterback was about to throw, and although teammate Tyler Guyton recovered the ball on first down, he was tackled by Texans safety Jalen Pitre and Barnett recovered the ball for a 28-yard touchdown. 

“Derek Barnett, the play he made, it changed the game for us,” Ryan said of Barnett’s touchdown early in the final quarter that gave the Texans a 27-10 lead. “It changed the momentum and got everybody excited on the sideline. It was a big play.”

As Texans wide receiver Nico Collins added, “It’s amazing, especially when the defense can grab it and go in and score. There’s no better feeling than that. You see guys jumping up and down on the sideline. There’s nothing better than seeing the defense running up and down the sideline. It gives you that energy. That’s what we need. The defense gets us motivated and gets the win.”

Ryan also praised 30-year-old defensive end Daniel Hunter, who had two sacks in the game, saying, “We just made a little bit of a change up on the defensive line and Hunter, he was really mobile in the second half, did a great job. I thought our guys did a better job of just being acrobatic and everything we asked them to do, made some changes, but they did a great job.”  ( player1688 )
